The museum’s program which consists predominantly of permanent and temporary exhibition spaces is broken up into two intertwining volumes.

Their scissor arrangement creates a covered urban plaza which connects the mediaeval city’s street network to the Danube river front.

The museum’s Danube façade displays a “Janus head” significance offering upstream and downstream two readings.

The building’s emphasis for the oblique direction constitutes a powerful contrast to the UNESCO world heritage urban fabric.
